Summer Creative Writing
ages 8-12
Are you tired of classroom "writing" assignments that are ALWAYS five-paragraph essays that must fit academic formulas? Do you long to write poetry or short stories, create dialogue and characters, and/or describe funny/interesting events that happen in your real life? Release your inner CREATIVE writer, at least for the summer, in this fun and motivating course.

Summer Creative Writing
June 10-August 5/June 12-August 7 (Center is closed July 4-10 for Fourth of July)
8-week series, Wednesdays or Fridays, 1-2:30 p.m.

$98/$86 sibling discount every 4 weeks

This 8-week course will expose writers to the craft of fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction. Writing activities will include artistically personalizing their own journal (first class); reading short works by published authors; participating in games and writing exercises; writing to prompts; and working on longer pieces (writer's choice). Hadley will especially focus on character development: creating a character and putting that character into a plot line. She will also provide inspiration and (positive) feedback on students' work--and the course will culminate with an anthology of stories. The class will be collaborative, interactive and engaging for writers regardless of their previous creative writing experience.
